Cable car paradise Uri and Glarus

The cantons of Uri and Glarus are true cable car paradises.
A wide range of cable cars, some of them spectacular, take you up to remote hiking trails with magnificent views and rustic mountain inns.

Uri's Niagara Falls

Uri offers plenty of spectacular water features. For example, after a hike of just under an hour from Unterschächen to Alp Äsch, marvel at the roughly 100-metre-high Stäuben waterfall. For the hungry and thirsty, the Gasthöfli Äsch and the meeting place with fire pits are ideal. A short visit to the pretty chapel is also worthwhile. The excursion is suitable for families.

Glarus' deep blue mountain lake

The deep blue Oberblegisee is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland and has an air of mystery thanks to its unexplored outflow. Wild mountain streams and wonderful Alpine flora frame this natural spectacle. Whether on foot or on a bike tour, the Oberblegisee invites you to picnic, sunbathe and swim.

Linthal village fair

The family-friendly village fair (Chilbi) takes place every year in early September, on the weekend before the Swiss Federal Day of Thanksgiving, on the old and new school squares in the centre of Linthal. A fair with a difference, with attractions such as air rifle shooting, go-karts and digger driving, archery and taster sessions in Swiss wrestling for youngsters. The food on offer is varied too – definitely worth a visit!

Mountain biking in Glarus

Over roots and rocks, flowing through berms or cruising along bike paths – the Glarus trails are full of bike tracks. Pump up your tyres, oil your chain and off you go. And don't forget to recharge – with electricity or power food. In Braunwald itself, for example, there is the Gumen enduro mountain bike tour – afterwards you can stay overnight in comfort at the Ortstockhaus . For young and old, the new bike skills park in the lintharena opened in May.
